Today a mass of products are available to beautify ourselves but before these where available home remedies where used from whatever was lying around the house.

Retro Beauty Tips:

  1. Coffee, coffee can be used as a fake tan or is believed by some to help reduce cellulite.
  2. Baking soda and water makes a great conditioner for your hair.
  3. In the 1940′s Blonde’s used a lemon rinse and brunette’s used a vinegar rinse and redheads used carrot rinse in their hair.  Beer was sometimes used.
  4.  Cleopatra is known to of bathed in milk a modern day version would be to use powdered milk, the lactic acid in the milk will soften and gently exfoliate the skin.
  5. For a home treatment for dry skin mix glycerine with lemon juice to moisturise, smooth out lines and plump up de-hydrated skin.
  6. Beauty sleep, a well known phrase enough sleep was a key ingredient to making us look our best, to help sleep add lavender to your bath or put some on your pillow.
  7. Cucumber was good for spots, has mild astringent qualities that can help reduce redness and swelling.
  8. For a homemade exfoliator try olive oil, honey, sea salt or sugar.
