1940′s make up was all about the red lipstick and eyebrows, they took pride in the way they looked and how they presented themselves even with limited make up supplies. ( Read more )

The 1940s was the ‘Mend and Make do’ decade, to cope with the shortages during the war rations were introduced. Everyone received a ration book and supplies were shared out equally between the public in the UK.

Life in 1940s Britain was challenging, people had to ration everything, from food to clothing so the Term ‘Sew and make do’ was commonly adopted. On a recent trip I came across the Liverpool wartime museum which was a house set up how it would of looked in the 1940′s.
