Britain had been climbing out f the great depression during the 1930′s when the war began. The government knew that it would have a major impact on peoples lives at home and so rationing was introduced. Everything from food to fuel was rationed.
Everyone joined in and played their part during the war while men were away fighting, the women worked at home, it was the first time that women were allowed to work were previously only men could work. Even thought times were hard people’s attitude remained positive, they lived by these moto’s and phrases….
-
Keep calm and carry on
-
Make and mend do
-
Always walk when you can
-
Save fuel for war
-
Save kitchen scraps to feed the pigs
-
Don’t waste water
-
Save waste paper
-
Dig for Victory
-
Holiday at home
-
Eat to keep healthy
-
Never give up
The government used lots of slogans and posters to keep people motivated, take a look at some of the posters.
